WORK VISA PROCESS (1)

You know what’s keeping me sane? The fact that I am going to be living and working in Canada in a couple of months IF I can get all the applications done on time - and accurately.

So I booked myself for the BUNAC programme that allows you to work in South Africa, Canada or the US for up to 2 years. All you need to do is apply for the visa QUICKLY. It’s on a first come, first serve basis. Thousands of applicants apply at the same time and it runs out in minutes. I was lucky to get a visa allocated to me on the second round.

But that didn’t mean it was mine just yet. I’m still in the process of getting the visa. Now it's more about getting to the next stage, which is waiting to receive a CAL (Conditional Acceptance Letter). Once I receive that, then I need to send off a police check within 14 days and finish off the rest of the application. There's just one more stage left.

The waiting I must do after that will be a killer. I will be waiting for my POE (Port of Entry) to Canada, the letter that will enable me to enter the country at any time within a year. Then my 2 year adventure begins.

So of course, it’s stressful when you think about it. But I’m looking at the bright side. I’m trying hard to look at the positive on EVERYTHING because I truly believe that when things are not going as planned, it’s because something better is coming.

All the work I did in my current job as a Website Editor will most definitely benefit my CV. I’m still very grateful that I managed to get a writing job after university. But this was just the first step of the ladder to help me find myself.

I now know where I’m heading. I have a vision. I have something waiting for me. And that’s what’s making me come into work every single morning.
